Hi Folks!

Hi Folks!
Self Potrait
Hi, its me again...Peterpatterpot.

Set on this short road trip, a local one-day getaway from the city of Kuala Lumpur. With my 2 best friends, we got our wheels rolling real early in the morning, before sunrise... just to let you know this is a very extremely unusual behavior of my 2 friends to wake up so early. ...Camerons must be special !

Cameron Highlands was named after and discovered in 1885 by an Englishman William Cameron during a survey operation in the Titiwangsa Mountain Range. The British colonists recognised its potential for growing tea, a precious commodity then.
Over time, townships began to sprout around the Highlands as the tea plantations grew. Today it is a popular tourist destination to visit on holiday due to its cooling atmosphere and serene environment and its picturesque scenery.

In terms of culture, the Chinese makes up the largest community in Cameron Highlands, running most of the businesses and plantations in the valley.

121km east of Ipoh and 214km north of Kuala Lumpur, sitting at 1500masl, it is the highest area on the mainland.

It would seem easier to choose the Simpang Pulai road. However coming from KL, you need additional 20mins drive from Tapah to the Simpang Pulai exit. Slightly longer time but worth the scenic view of the valley and mountain ranges as you drive up to Blue Valley. At this junction, turn right, down towards Kampong Raja and down to Tanah Rata. At Blue Valley junction, if venture straight across, one would eventually come out at Gua Musang on the east coast. From Kampong Raja down, endless vege farms and strawberry farms spread out over the undulating highlands.
Kea Farm is a very popular market where you can get everything from freshly picked corn to strawberries and honey!

Tapah road is more winding and narrow but reaches the southern towns of Camerons ie Ringlet and Tanah Rata in an hour or less fr Kuala Lumpur.

so begins another adventure of Peterpatterpot...

7AM ish-Bidor Town-Breakfast

Exit to Bidor

Around 7.30am,we reached the exit to Bidor Town. This is our first stop on our one day road trip to Cameron Highlands. Here is where we have our breakfast at the famous dry duck noodle. With much enthusiasm, we intentionally diverted off the North South highway at Bidor to taste the "legendary noodles". The last time I had it was before this highway was built......

But we were very DISAPPOINTED !! Not only is the noodle so normal, the service that we received was TERRIBLE !

awful, awful manners !!!

This is the coffee shop with EXTREMELY oversold 'famous Bidor dry noodles'. This is the lady with the EXTREMELY awful manners who took our orders. The only reason this place survives is because of innocent suckers like us out of towners who 'heard' about this famous noodles and curiosity kills the cat.

I wonder if its the air in this coffee shop that makes the waitresses looking so grumpy and so rude !
We hurriedly drank our drinks and my girlfriends didnt even finish her dry " famous noodles", quickly left with an instant tummy ache !!!

My vote is - Dont waste your time/stomach at this place. The people who strived long and hard to make the famous noodles are long gone.

This place gets a 'THUMBS DOWN' for food and service. Even the simple Coffee was awful too !
The only thing worth going for is the smile on this cleaner boy's face ...he never stopped 'laughing' at us... probably saying to himself ..." HA HA ...more suckers for the noodles !"

Nobody else smiles here.

BUT if you go across the road like all the cute folks on their nice old bicycles in this little 'lost in time' town to the other side you will find the place where all the locals go. This is where the true Bidor-rians are , The marketplace. You will find old men squatting on five foot walkways selling local fruits and probably where the 'real good' food is at. I didnt get to try the food (had tummy upset after that other place) but judging from the crowd at this place (photo below) it must be worth another trip.

this is the marketplace, just behind the main road... from the Highway exit fr Kuala Lumpur, turn into any of the left roads in the Bidor town and you will find yourself at this marketplace, lots of local food and yummy durians too !!
